Alan Fulle

Biography

Born in 1964, Alan Goodson Fulle grew up and continues to live in Seattle, Washington. Whether the medium is sculpting, painting, or video Alan's work explores qualities of nature and architecture. Working primarily with various paints held within layers of epoxy resin, Alan’s inspiration comes from the innate beauty of the Pacific Northwest. His art emphasizes rich colors, strong organic compositions, natural earth forms and a lexicon of harder edged shapes reminiscent of geometric human-made forms and expressions.

Alan graduated from the University of Washington with a BFA in painting in 1989. While attending university he also explored sculpture, printmaking, and photography. Alan’s explorations in photography eventually led to a stronger interest in video. Pursuing this interest, he returned to the University of Washington in 1994 for a certificate program in video and film.

Today, Alan is a Maximalist, which he defines as a product of the combined ideas of Minimalism and Abstract Expressionism but with an additive emphasis on architecture. His explorations with the alchemic interactivity between paint materials and epoxy resin has lead to the creation of both sculptural paintings and freestanding Tower sculptures. Alan is also experimenting with creating multi-sensory sculptural structures by including video elements into his Tower pieces.

Alan is now working on growing his career both domestically and internationally with shows in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Vancouver, Canada and Portland, Oregon.
