My paintings are constructed out of the organic movement of poured paint. In contrast to Jackson Pollock's technique of pouring paint on to a canvas that rests flat on the floor, my technique is for the canvas to be vertically upright, causing the drips of poured paint to fall down the surface of the canvas, forming straight lines of color. With a turn of the surface, the free-flowing skeins of paint weave together to form a complex, layered network.
By exploring the sensual language of paint's unpredictable nature within the rigid construction of the grid, I strive to represent the conflicting dualities that exist within ourselves and in our society: control vs. freedom; reason vs. intuition; and responsibility vs. desire.
