The Elliott Louis Gallery

Brian Romer was born in Vancouver and began painting at a young age. He is self-taught, and over the years has experimented in many media and styles. His early work was strongly influenced by abstract expressionism. He attended the University of Oregon, and subsequently lived and worked in Montreal, New York, Calgary and Edmonton before returning to the West Coast some twenty-five years ago. Over time, Brian's work has gradually become more and more representational in an attempt to capture the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

In the summer of 1999, Brian attended the Centre Estival des Arts de Montaigut-le-Blanc in the Auvergne. The sights and colors of France have added a new dimension to his work. Brian currently paints in his West Vancouver and Sechelt studios, and whenever possible, outside on location. Recently, his paintings have been shown in Vancouver at an invitational show, "Artists Across the Inlet" at the Zhee Clay Gallery and at a juried solo show, "Tall Trees & Toits Tuiles" (From the West Coast to la France Profonde) at the Ferry Building Gallery in West Vancouver.
