Martin Brouillette

My work is rooted in my personal reality and the necessity I have to communicate about contemporary human conditions. The subject of my paintings, the concepts and  ideas I am engaged with, are continually evolving and changing. I am primarily interested in the vulnerable and damaged side of modern society.

I use photographs as a reference point in terms of the physical aspect of what I am trying to express. Then, by allowing sensitivity and memory to the fore, I integrate a conceptual  perspective  to these images. My work is influenced and informed by music, computer art, illustration as well as the full range of contemporary painting and painters.

I believe chaos and beauty can coexist. It is a constant concern that I have. There is a thin line between what is considered seductive and what is defined repulsive. I enjoy  pushing those limits as much as I can.  For me, painting represents a voice with endless possibilities. It empowers me to express simple thoughts more fully than any other medium.
