1903-1995 Carl Fellman Schaefer, born at Hanover, Ontario. Studied at the Ontario College of Art, Toronto (1921-1924) with Arthur Lismer, J.E.H. MacDonald, G.A. Reid, and C.M. Manly. Assisted MacDonald in making mural decorations in Toronto; also made theatre decorations. Taught at the Central Technical School, Toronto, (1931-1947). Won a Guggenheim fellowship in 1940 and painted in Vermont, 1940-1941. As an offical war artist with the Air Force (1943-1946) he painted in England and Iceland; studied at the Central School of Art and Design, London, 1943-1944. A.R.C.A. in 1949. Did teach at Ontario College of Art since 1948; head of drawing and painting department since 1956. Lived in Toronto. Landscape painter chiefly in water colour.
