Pegi Nicol MacLeod

1904-1949 Margaret Kathleen (Nicol) MacLeod; signed herself in her mature period Pegi Nicol MacLeod. Born at Listowel, Ontario. Pupil of Franklin Brownell in Ottawa, then studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Montreal. Painted in Alberta, 1927, and among the Indians on the Skeena River, British Columbia, 1928. Won the Willingdon Arts Competition prize for painting in 1931. Lived in Toronto from 1934 to 1937 when she married and went to live in New York. Painted the activities of the women's divisions of the armed forces, 1944-1945. Taught at the summer school of the University of New Brunswich, 1940-1948. Died in New York. Painter of genre, figures, and landscape.
