1864-1955 Ozias Leduc, born at Saint-Hilaire, Quebec. Mainly self-taught, though about 1880 he worked at decorations for churches with an Italian painter, Luigi Cappello and in 1883 worked with Adolphe Rho at the decoration of the church at Yamachiche, Quebec. He then began a career as a painter of church decorations, carrying out many commissions in Quebec. Travelled to France in 1897 in company with Suzor-Cote and was there most influenced by minor impressionists such as Le Sidaner and Rene Menard. Returned to Saint-Hilaire where he spent the rest of his life in seclusion. A.R.C.A. in 1916. Honorary doctorate (Montreal), 1938. Died at Saint-Hyacinthe.
