1860-1891 Paul Peel, born at London, Ontario, the son of a marble-cutter and drawing teacher. Studied at the Pennsylvania Academy, Philidelphia (1877-1880); the R.A. Schools, London (1880); and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris (1881) under Gerome and others. Returned to London, Ontario, and Toronto for a short time about 1890, but was chiefly active in Paris. A.R.C.A. in 1882, R.C.A. in 1890. Died in Paris. Shortly before his death he had achieved a considerable success for his technique in such academie figure subjects as 'After the Bath' (1890).
