June Yun  Bio  ·

June Yun is a Vancouver-based Chinese-Canadian artist. Ms Yun was born in China and educated at Anhui Normal University, later graduating from the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing with a major in painting. June then continued her studies in England and in 2000 received a Master of Fine Art degree from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Ms Yun has gone on to teach art at Anqing University, Macau Polytechnic Institute and the Emily Carr University of Art and Design.

Ms Yun has exhibited internationally since 2000, in China (Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen, Taiwan); Europe (France, Belgium and Greece); in Great Britain (London, Newcastle, Washington, Gateshead, Sunderland, Manchester, Edinburgh, Cambridge and Durham). In Canada, she has exhibited at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Richmond Art Gallery and Centre A: Vancouver International Centre for Contemporary Asian Art and at the Shanghai Himalayas Art Museum. In early 2014, Yun participated in the "Mapping Mapusa Market" collaborative contemporary art project with British, Indian and Canadian artists in Goa, India, which was funded by the Arts Council England. In the summer of 2016 she participated in the "Big Print Project" with Chinese Canadian and Indigenous artists celebrating the art of large-scale woodcut print-making using a steamroller. Ms Yun has  received grants and awards nationally and internationally, including Canada Council for the Arts and BC Arts Council for Professional Visual Arts. In addition Ms Yun has had a number of solo exhibitions at private galleries locally and internationally.

June Yun's artwork builds on the edge of Eastern and Western cultures. Through her life and travel experiences from East to West, and then looking back at the East, Ms Yun transforms her aesthetics and artistic concepts into visual forms: oil painting, drawing, calligraphy, video and installation. These framed thoughts are a glimpse into her inside world and passions, made more simple and quiet in their external form.
